It mainly causes involuntary shaking of the hands during movement and can interfere with everyday activities. This project aims to improve understanding of the genetic factors that contribute to the development of essential tremor by combining CARTaGENE data with data from large international cohorts.<br \/>\nResearch conducted so far has identified several new genetic regions associated with essential tremor risk and has provided further insight into the biological mechanisms involved, particularly those related to the cerebellum, a brain region that plays an important role in movement control. The findings have also shown that certain rare genetic variants may contribute to disease susceptibility. This work is helping to advance understanding of the causes of essential tremor and may ultimately support the development of new diagnostic and therapeutic
