class=\"ft-contenu__body-col col-12 col-lg-8\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"ft-contenu__texte\"><p>Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. This project uses genetic data from CARTaGENE, combined with data from large Canadian and international cohorts, to better understand the genetic factors that influence the risk of developing lung diseases and lung cancer. Research conducted to date has identified new biological mechanisms involved in pulmonary diseases, developed genetic testing approaches for certain forms of familial pulmonary fibrosis, and demonstrated that the combined effects of many genetic variants can contribute to lung cancer risk. The findings suggest that individuals with a higher genetic predisposition are at increased risk of developing lung cancer, and that this risk is substantially amplified by smoking. These studies are improving our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying lung diseases and may support the development of new strategies for prevention, early detection, and personalized
