class=\"ft-contenu__body-col col-12 col-lg-8\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"ft-contenu__texte\"><p>Climate change is increasing the frequency, duration, and intensity of extreme heat events, creating growing risks for population health. This project aims to better understand how extreme heat affects the physical and mental health of people living in Quebec, as well as the associated costs for individuals and the healthcare system. Particular attention is given to populations that may be more vulnerable to heat, including older adults, people living with chronic illnesses, individuals with lower incomes, and those with fewer resources to adapt to extreme temperatures. Using CARTaGENE data linked to provincial health administrative databases, researchers will examine the impact of heat on hospitalizations, emergency department visits, medical consultations, medication use, and mortality. The project will also estimate how these impacts may evolve over the coming decades under different climate scenarios and assess the potential benefits of adaptation measures such as urban greening, access to cooling spaces, emergency response plans, and community-based interventions. This work will help Quebec better prepare for the health impacts of climate change while supporting more equitable and effective adaptation
