Summary

This project uses data from CARTaGENE and Quebec administrative data to answer Health Canada’s questions about the safety and effectiveness of commonly prescribed medications. The analyses focus on three main areas:

Antidepressants (SSRIs/SNRIs): determining whether they increase the risk of fractures.
Hypertension: comparing the real‑world effectiveness of thiazide diuretics, which remain underused despite being effective and low‑cost.
Diabetes: evaluating the safety and impact of different types of insulin and oral treatments on hypoglycemia, blood sugar control (HbA1c), and weight.

This work helps health authorities better understand real‑world medication use and supports evidence‑based treatment policies for several chronic diseases.
