Investigation of cancer susceptibility in people from the Quebec region

Lung cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in Canada. Some individuals develop several distinct lung tumors at the same time, a rare condition known as multiple synchronous lung adenocarcinomas. However, the reasons why some people are more susceptible to developing this form of cancer than others remain poorly understood.

This project aims to identify genetic factors associated with susceptibility to multiple synchronous lung adenocarcinomas by comparing genetic data from affected individuals, people with more common forms of lung cancer, and CARTaGENE participants. The research team will also examine the influence of factors such as smoking, environmental exposures, and the demographic history of Quebec’s population to better understand their role in cancer risk.

Ultimately, this research will improve our understanding of the inherited and environmental factors associated with lung cancer. It may also contribute to the development of new approaches for identifying individuals at increased risk and provide insights into the biological mechanisms involved in the development of this disease.
