Evaluation of coronary vascular disease among high cardiovascular risk patients in CARTaGENE.

Cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of illness and death in Quebec. This project aims to better understand the health status of people at high risk of cardiovascular disease, including those who have experienced a heart attack or stroke, or who live with diabetes, kidney disease, or other major risk factors. Using CARTaGENE data linked with provincial health administrative records, researchers are examining the prevalence of these conditions, patterns of cholesterol-lowering treatment, medication adherence, and the occurrence of new cardiovascular events. The project has also provided insights into how cardiovascular risk varies across population groups in Quebec and how social factors such as income and education influence long-term cardiovascular health. Findings suggest that, even within a universal healthcare system with broad access to medications, socioeconomic differences in cardiovascular risk persist. The project also evaluates healthcare utilization and the economic burden associated with cardiovascular disease, with the goal of improving prevention and treatment strategies for those at greatest risk.
