Lifestyle Habits, Plasma Metabolites and Cardiovascular Health in a Cohort of Individuals with Heterozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia
This project aimed to better understand how healthy lifestyle habits influence cardiovascular health in individuals with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), a genetic condition common in the French‑Canadian population and characterized by very high LDL‑cholesterol levels. Within the CARTaGENE cohort, participants with FH were identified using the validated Canadian definition, and their lifestyle habits, LDL‑cholesterol concentrations, and plasma metabolomic profiles were examined. The study assessed a healthy lifestyle score based on five favorable behaviors and identified metabolites associated with these habits. The findings help clarify how lifestyle influences cardiovascular risk factors in people with FH and highlight biological mechanisms that may support more personalized prevention and treatment strategies.
