Mapping women at risk of cardiovascular disease in Quebec and assessing the impact of traditional and non‑traditional risk factors

Summary

This project aims to better understand where women at highest risk of cardiovascular disease are located in Quebec and which factors contribute most to that risk. The study examines both well‑known risk factors — such as diabetes, smoking, and sedentary lifestyle — and “non‑traditional” factors linked to pregnancy complications, certain cancer treatments, or mental health.
The goal is to map these risk factors across Quebec and determine which ones have the greatest impact, whether individually or in combination. CARTaGENE data were selected because they bring together all the information needed for this analysis.
Initial statistical results are completed, an abstract was presented at the 2024 Canadian Cardiovascular Congress, and two publications are underway. The project also aims to develop a women‑specific version of the Framingham equation that integrates both traditional and non‑traditional risk factors to improve cardiovascular risk assessment.
