Summary

Paleogenomics makes it possible to better understand human evolution by comparing the DNA of ancient individuals with that of contemporary populations. Quebec offers a unique setting for this type of research, with a well‑documented founder population and exceptional genealogical and genomic data.
This project aims to link ancient genomes from burials at Montreal’s first Notre‑Dame church to the genomes of contemporary individuals in Quebec using CARTaGENE and BALSAC data. By combining genetic and genealogical information, the study will trace certain family lineages over several centuries and improve understanding of the recent genetic evolution of the Quebec population, supporting future research in human genetics.
