The CanPath project aims to build a large pan-Canadian cohort to study how genetic and environmental factors interact in the development of chronic diseases, in order to generate evidence to inform research and health policy.
Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow’s Health (CanPath)
Supporting chronic disease research in Canada
In 2009, a strategic partnership was formed to establish a large prospective cohort for the study of cancer and other chronic diseases in Canada. This partnership, initially called the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow Project and now known as the Canadian Partnership for Tomorrow’s Health (CanPath), aimed to build a comprehensive, long-term pan-Canadian health research platform with sufficient statistical power to examine the complex interaction between genetic and environmental factors contributing to the development of major chronic diseases in the Canadian population.
CanPath now brings together a confederation of provincial and regional cohorts located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Québec, and the Atlantic provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador).
CanPath provides detailed genomic, clinical, behavioral, and environmental data on 330,000 Canadians to enable the global research community to generate evidence for informing health policy
