Summary

This project aims to better understand chronic kidney disease among middle‑aged adults in Québec using data from more than 20,000 CARTaGENE participants. The research team first estimates how many people show signs of reduced kidney function—whether diagnosed or not—by calculating glomerular filtration rates using measures such as creatinine, age and sex. The team is also interested in people who have impaired kidney function without knowing it and who are not receiving treatment. Over the years, the project has identified several factors linked to kidney disease, including its effects on arterial stiffness and cardiovascular complications. Current work explores new risk factors, such as hyperaldosteronism, as well as associations between kidney disease and common issues like cognitive disorders. The team continues to analyze the data and is preparing multiple scientific publications on these important health topics.
