Summary
Genetic testing is increasingly used to determine blood group antigens and prevent transfusion-related complications. This project focused on a specific RHD gene variant, weak D type 42, which appears more common in the Quebec population. Using data from CARTaGENE participants, the study estimated its prevalence in the general population. Although rare, this variant was found to be more frequent locally than in other populations, possibly due to a founder effect. These findings improve understanding of blood group genetics and may inform clinical decisions in transfusion medicine and pregnancy care.
