The COVID-19 CARTaGENE project: Epidemiological and prospective cohort-based seroepidemiological surveillance study for COVID-19 infection

The COVID‑19 pandemic raised important questions about the factors associated with infection, disease severity, and the broader impacts of the pandemic on the population. This project used the CARTaGENE cohort to monitor the evolution of COVID‑19 in Quebec through questionnaires and serological analyses that measured antibodies against SARS‑CoV‑2. The research helped improve understanding of factors associated with infection, the characteristics of affected individuals, and the social and economic consequences of the pandemic. The findings also contributed to identifying symptoms most strongly associated with confirmed infection and to better understanding factors linked to vaccine hesitancy. Together, these studies provided a unique portrait of the COVID‑19 experience among adults in Quebec and helped support public health decision‑making throughout the pandemic.
